The Atlantic Monthly just published an article appraising President Obama’s new “sweeping student loan reforms.” They estimate that it will save approximately $4-$10 dollars per month for student loan debtors who qualify. It is questionable whether a majority of student loan debtors will in fact qualify, but for the lucky few . . . voila! One majestic swipe of the chosen one’s golden pen, and all of those ex-students who are struggling so hard to repay their student loans in an Obamanation economy will miraculously save between four and ten dollars per month (if they qualify)!

How will this miracle program generate such huge savings? Essentially, Obama’s new program permits student loan debtors to consolidate their loans which is estimated to save a whopping 0.5%! Wow! Additionally, it will reduce the maximum payment from 15% to 10% of qualifying students’ annual income. Perhaps the most important component is the loan forgiveness for unpaid balances after 20 years (down from 25 years). It is this component which is so brilliantly Obamanesque. This is the next trillion dollar bubble.

Eighty-Two percent (82%) of all outstanding student loan debt in history has accrued in the last 10 years. That amount is One Trillion Dollars! The reasons? Student loan amounts have increased by 511% since 1999!!! The reason for this — as anyone with a child in college knows — is that tuition has increased dramatically in recent years. Colleges and universities have also begun to nickel and dime parents for an endless list of student fees in addition to tuition in an effort to erroneously boast competitive tuition for their institution.

There are no market forces present in the American school system. That is why its cost has increased at a rate which has out-paced the increases of everything in America with the possible exception of gold. Although, until recently, its cost increase exceeded even gold! The explosive cost of tuition can be traced to government subsidization. All of American education is subsidized by state and federal government. That brings huge amounts of revenue which subsidizes teachers, professors, endomwent investors, and countless others in the education system.

The thing that everyone must understand is that government subsidies always increase cost, but they are always pitched as a cost-spreading savings. The student loan debtor would be absolutely shocked to learn the obscene amount beyond what they paid to their institution in tuition. The taxpayer, however, who never attended the institution may be a little more upset.

The uncomparable increase in college tuition begs the question as to why the Wall Street Protestors are not marching on their over-priced institutions. They selected the college. They attended the college. They received its benefits. Yet, they are protesting the financial institutions that made it possible for them to attend. Why are they not protesting the college which charged them exhorbitant tuition? Instead, they protest the lenders who made their attendance possible.

The reason is simple: ignorance. Implicit in that ignorance is the lesson that modern-day subsidization of colleges and universities produces a setting in which the socialist intellegencia that comprises the academic community is rewarded richly with professors earning more than most others in their town. Their students, on the other hand, are taught that economic success is inherently evil and undeserved. Contrast that with the reality — as demonstrated daily by the Wall Street Protestors — that these institutions are producing generations of students who know all about global warming, feelings, moral relativity, the benevolence of government, and evil Americanism, but they know nothing about the greatest country on earth of which they are self-destructive inhabitants. They know much, but it is not knowledge. The more of it they learn, the stupider they become. Eventually, they are too ignorant to amount to anything, and that’s when the value of their socialist, self-centered education hits them and they relaize that they can always fall back on the one thing they know; protesting, demanding the evil Americans pay for their problems.

Unless ACORN is resurrected and provided with another Obama Stimulus for hiring anti-American radicals, these students will not find an employer willing to pay for their expensive ignorance. That is the value of the student loans they wrought. The most damning evidence in support of this is their cries for student loan forgiveness. That is what they have paid for . . . an indoctrination in the ways of the whiner who believes himself to be entitled to whatever he wants. The alternative — hard work to repay loans for the over-priced education of their choice — does not occur to them. That isn’t taught anymore. Neither is mathematics, science, grammar, work ethic, or any of the former “staples” of the American education system. That would be unfair because some people might get better grades than others, but that is the great thing about teaching ignorance. Anyone can learn it!

The same cost increases can be seen in Medicaid and Medicare whose costs have out-paced unsubsidized medical costs. This is common sense, but we have been dumbed down by Progressives who have made an art form of misrepresentative “packaging.” When government subsidizes (i.e. confiscates money from taxpayers, irrespective of whether they ever utilize the service subsidized) anything, the costs go up almost immediately.

For example, does anyone believe that road construction is accompanied by reasonable costs? Just the allocation process alone breeds seething corruption, and can be illustrated by everyday experiences such as interstate re-surfacing of a perfectly fine road. When the government controls how much of your money is spent (or where it is spent), it is divorced from the natural concerns of the money’s true owner. This process stymies entreprenurial endeavors like invention and creativity, because necessity is the mother of all invention. Government subsidies remove the need for free-willed ingenuity; replacing it with a never-ending supply of other people’s money. This results in a slowed evolution of commercial and industry practices.

“Green” energy is a glaring, textbook example of government subsidies at their worst. Since Jimmy Carter was President, taxpayers have “contributed” more than $41 billion to solar panel technology, and that does not even take into account the expenditures under the Obama administration which allocated $39 billion to its now infamous loan program which is guaranteed by . . . you guessed it, the taxpayers. Have you priced a solar panel lately? They are unaffordable, but just as important is the fact that the technology sucks! Anyone who believes otherwise has yet to do their research. Those who know better are not bragging about the eighty-five degree showers, or the injuries suffered by homeowners who have learned the hard way that the panels’ energy productivity dips when the they are dirty or covered with leaves.

Recently, a tremendous amount of information was gleaned from the Census. It reveals startling facts about “the poor” in America. For example, did you know that 80% of them have air conditioning? Were you aware that 75% of the “poor” own a car or truck? 31% of those 75% have more than one car or truck! I imagine that you are as shocked as I was to discover the foregoing statistics, but there is more.

Two thirds of the “poor” in America have cable or satellite television. That would imply that they have at least one television, would it not? Apparently, because two-thirds of the “poor” also have a DVD Player. 70% have a VCR. Now that is slumming!

The late Steve Jobs would be proud of the fact that one-half of the “poor” have a personal computer. One out of seven have more than one personal computer.

Half of the “poor” (with children) own an X-Box or a Playstation. Wow!

43% of the “poor” have internet access. I think this goes without saying, because it would be unfair for them not to have an internet connection for their computers. Do you know how bored you can get sitting at home all day not working?

This is my favorite. One-third have a widescreen plasma or LCD television.

One-fourth have a DVR! Again, if you’re going to get the flatscreen, you simply must have the DVR!

Get ready for this! 96% reported that their children have NEVER gone hungry due to a lack of food!!! This is so confusing . . . I thought President Obama told us that they have to make a daily choice between heat and food. Well, heat maybe, but seems unlikely when 80% have air conditioning.

Only 4% reported even TEMPORARY homelessness. In fact, 42% own their own homes.

Welcome to the new American poor. Poor is the new middle class, and wealthy (if Obama has his way) will be the new poor, because they are the ones paying for this.

Did you know that the average “poor” person in America has more living space than the average Swede or German? Read that again. The Swede and German are average income earners in their countries, not welfare recipients, and they have a smaller living space than our “poor.” Incredibly, Americans who are below the poverty line, are wealthier than 85% of the world’s population!

See Rector & Sheffield’s “Understanding Poverty” at for more fascinating facts about the “poor” in America . . . formerly referred to as the well-to-do. Try telling someone who lived through the depression, that these folks are poor. Although, if we wait a few months, we won’t have to. Our depression will unfortunately be coming soon to remind us of what poverty really is.

By now, I pray that you have heard of the Cloward and Piven strategy. It seems only fitting to write about it now; many decades since its inception, and in the final hours before it has consumed our once-vibrant nation. It is a strategy for destroying America which was designed by its namesakes. The ground-work has been laid by Progressives and other statists for more than a generation.

Here’s how it works: embark upon an all-out agenda to add more and more social programs, and other government spending until we are broke. Then, the government will be forced to borrow to continue the programs. Finally, despite the hardest-working taxpayers on the planet, the juggernaut that is the United States will collapse under its own weight. The collapse will include a substantial devaluation of the currency due to the exhorbitant borrowing that will be done on the way. Sound familiar yet?

Taxes will undoubtedly be increased, because when news of our government’s financial condition finally crowds celebrity gossip off the front page, it will be too late. Some taxpayers will be more receptive to “fixing” this problem with higher taxes, but that will exascerbate the problem by slowing the economy more. Ask your parents about Jimmy Carter’s economic policy. But that won’t stop some economically uneducated taxpayers from agreeing once it becomes apparent that we are on the brink of financial collapse. Although, they will be upset initially, many will see that big threatening debt means bigger tax payments.

Those taxpayers’ response will be borne out of a sense of responsibility, but in reality, tax increases on any taxpayer will seal our doom. Moreover, the same Preisdent that has been sounding the alarm, is our economic adversary. In fact, President Obama’s principal goal is to manage our nation’s decline while lulling the uninformed into a network “news”-induced trance which distracts them from their own impending peril. These folks must recognize what the media is NOT reporting, but it is precisely because they are not reporting our President’s complicity, that the uninformed remain the uninformed.

On one hand, President Obama is silent on uprisings like those on Wall Street and in cities around the country. He is borrowing more money, printing more money through quantitive easing I & II (and recently “the Twist”), and demanding that Congress authorize more spending to purchase more government jobs while simultaneously lecturing us that we should pay more in taxes. Does anyone really believe that a President who has spent more of our money than all Presidents before him, and who continues to demand MORE spending under the guise that purchasing more jobs will improve our deficit-laden economy — even though it never has before — is really going to use the additional tax revenue to pay down the debt?

On the other hand, he is quite vocal and supportive about festering disasters like the Occupation of Wall Street by the great unwashed. He speaks of them as though they are to be admired. Some of the vitriol and filth teeming among the protestors is so reprehensible as to be objectionable on that basis alone by a President. This is particularly true given the fact that the disorder they seek is happening to President Obama’s country . . . the one for which he is the leader.

The destabilizing objectives of these protestors — and their evil and radical backers — should meet with any President’s disapproval simply on the basis that it is a menace which seeks to collapse our banking system and sink our country into disorder and chaos. Everyone who owns a dollar, will lose its value upon a financial collapse; even the useful idiots who blindly help to cause it. Strangely, when asked about the protestors this week, Mr. Obama made his very first remarks on the nationwide protest which had already been going on for 18 days. His brief remarks indicated that he had seen coverage of the protests, and that he sympathized with them in blaming the banks. Every liberal Democrat interviewed this week (including the DNC’s Chairwoman, Debbie Was-A-Man Schultz, and the former House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi) is giddy in their praise of the class envyism exhibited by the protestors.

Why? Because class envy is the greatest tool for diminishing the liberty of the citizenry, while elevating the power of the government. All of the citizenry is exploited in class envy. The rich will have even more of their wealth confiscated. The poor will receive more in government benefits which — unbeknownst to them — makes them even more dependent upon the government. Dependency is the antithesis of liberty. The winner is the government, because it grows, but a government is static. So, the true winners are the diabolical Progressives who gain one more step toward complete control, AND additional tax revenue.

This is one of those rare moments where every American citizen should stop and ask about the remarkably peculiar coverage of this event by the media, and ask why our President is its cheerleader. This is what civil unrest looks like. This response is akin to a fire department stating that they sympathize with arsonists while encouraging the flames to rage on. It doesn’t matter that you are a loathsome socialist Mr. Obama, it is your job to LEAD and to act like at least a mid-level manager rather than a cheerleader for the dollar’s collapse! You know, the way you did when Congresswoman Giffords had been shot. Remember the way you lectured us on the dangers of harsh rhetoric from the right . . . even though you knew nothing about the cause of the shooting? Or like the time you said you knew nothing about the situation involving the black college professor, but said the Cambridge “police acted stupidly” just for good measure?

Mr. Obama is like a sordid magician, he shows us one hand, but it is the other that we should fear. Beware the hand you can’t see because of the chaotic distractions that have mysteriously lingered and multiplied since he took office. That is the fingerprint of Saul Alinsky; manipulation through misdirection. The uninformed are called “useful idiots” by Mr. Alinsky. His plan for them in his books, makes this name perfectly apt.

Saul Alinsky was an important co-designer of this plan as he is the architect of manipulating “useful idiots” (Alinsky’s uninformed Americans) into the false belief that our freedom-induced success makes us sympathetic to more and more safety nets for the “poor,” which ironically impedes the economic success of the currently poor and of future generations. It is an Alinsky-designed game of dominoes and a race toward America’s financial ruin.

What is the end game? Control and the “transformation” that Obama promised. Obama is a student of Alinsky. Our President may not be the Manchurian candidate, but he is the Alinskian candidate, and it is a difference without a distinction. Socialism/communism/fascism and all statism has its greatest appeal when people are starving and desperate. The useful idiot protestors are simply setting the stage. They are all taking places as a massively ignorant tinderbox. Unbeknownst to them, they are morons who have merely — and predictably — answered a casting call by vile leaders that many of them have never heard of. “Places everyone,” while we await the cataclysmic event that will turn these hapless cattle into thieves, vandals, marauders, and ultimately, revolutionaries.

In the 1960′s, the sudden plague of violence and assassinations took the same type of meandering morons from flowers and beads to the DNC riots of 1968. God help us when the evil shepherds of these mindless sheep rear their heads. It is impossible to know what the ignition source will be, but I fear it is coming.

What sort of government will the master puppeteers bring us? Well, can it be as free as the one our Founders crafted after years of self-sacrifice, painstaking study of political structures and history, and absolute humility and reverance to God? Yeah right.

The genius of Progressivism through the Cloward & Piven approach, is that you PROGRESSIVELY transform into socialism. This brilliant, but lethal approach obviates the need for a revolution, at least initially. Instead, the disease of Progressivism rots liberty slowly from within, and by the time it takes root in our schools, government, and societies, it is too late. There will likely still be a revolution, but it will be like retaliating after the enemy is already inside the gate.

To illustrate the slow, but lethal cancer of Progressivism, one need only ask the “Occupation” protestors what they want. Ask them, “will you take liberty over hand-outs?” The answer — after the laughter dies down — will evidence with absolute clarity that they do not even recognize liberty. That is the problem. Their ignorance of what they already have makes it devoid of value. It does not exist to them precisely because they have been immersed in it their entire lives (for a discussion on this point, please see the post, “Freedom & The Fish Out Of Water”). That is unfortunate, but soon they will realize with equal clarity that they would sell everthing including their last stitch of clothes for the liberty they helped to destroy. That which is so plentiful is invisible and worthless, but all of the years of Progressive indoctrination will be swept away shortly after the Marxists, socialists, communists, liberals, and Progressives take over. They will eat each other. Unfortunately, they will eat us too.

The useful idiots themselves will shriek in horror when they realize what they have wrought. They will be equally shocked to learn that the groups funding their Kumbaya sit-ins are vicious wolves in sheep’s clothing who, according to Alinsky, will devour them first. That is the unique danger of Progressivisim. Its proponents fall into two categories: 1) those who seek power through tyranny, and 2) those who advance Progressivism as unwitting useful idiots whose greatest attribute to the tyrant is their gullibility, and whose greatest liability to him is their inevitable awakening therefrom. That is why the tyrant always slaughters the useful idiots first, because once he has gotten power, the utopia anticipated by the idiots turns out to be good old fashioned despotism. No rainbows, no flowers and beads, no love; just unimaginable horror, starvation, executions, and yes . . . even disparity, in much worse doses than the capitalism around whose dying neck it was hung. No big-screen T.V.’s, and no sponging off of mom and dad until you’re twenty-five. There is an old saying that seems to crop up in every statist country: “you don’t work, you don’t eat.” This realization will awaken the useful idiots and will risk that they will ally themselves with the rest of us in opposition to the tyrant. That is the point at which they have outlived their usefulness. The media “intellectuals” and the few Egyptians who actually believed in “the Arab Spring” as a “democracy movement” have already learned this lesson. Soon, an Iranian-like Islamic theocracy governed by Sharia law will be imposed completely, and the rest of the Christians, homosexuals, non-muslims, and rape victims will be executed.

Ultimately, all of the social programs will be gone because only a free society which fosters success can afford to pay for them. The dirty little secret is that class envy is the fuel of socialism. Socialism inevitably leads to despotism and tyranny. The mantra of the protestors is class envy, just like Karl Marx (and the American university system) teaches.

The Cloward and Piven strategy will bring America — and the Liberty that defines her — into despotism before it is over. At this moment, it is hard to avoid the fascination of gazing upon our own ruination where virtually noone is aware of America’s imminent fate, least of all the useful idiots carrying signs in our cities. The surrealism of American media lulling its viewers into a waltz of the ignorant is as sad as it is foretelling of our defeat.

The protestors, many of whom have admitted to being paid to be there, blame capitalism for our financial ruin. Capitalism is nothing more than economic freedom. Capitalism could only be abhored by one who has never lived in an alternative economic system. Would these protestors be happy if the government gave them each a business? Perhaps . . . at least temporarliy. But when the “grand opening” signs were taken down, and the brand new business owners realized that all of their earnings would have to be confiscated to pay for everyone else’s brand new gift of a taxpayer-funded business, and after most of the businesses failed because the shiftless protestors who sought them didn’t realize they had to actually work at the business, they might begin to see the wisdom of capitalism where each person is free to make his own way. As he does so, he achieves a greater level of happiness, and then he is able to afford to help those who are unable to work. Ironically, it is approximately at this point that Progressives will again begin to guilt us into never-ending expansions of those legitimate programs to include endless affirmative action, SSDI for ADHD, reparations, political correctness, sex-ed for kindergartners, deficit spending, government payments to grandparents for babysitting their own grandchildren, and the cycle repeats itself all over again.

In all my life, I never understood how titanic political/societal events long in the making can go unnoticed until their crescendo. It is as though we are stuck in the eye of a great and deadly hurricane which is known only to we few. It is the calm before the storm. The masses are blind to it, but it is coming nonetheless. How frustrating it must be for those throughout the ages who have comprehended great and impending doom while still in the hurricane’s eye. All around them, their fellow man is saturated with the blissful attitude of blue skies above despite the reality of his ever-nearing annihilation.

This will not be the first violent and lethal world-wide transformation. Surely then, we are not the first ones to find ourselves in this position; this terrible position which is akin to the premise in the movie, The Matrix, where only a few are even aware of what is happening in the world around them. The remarkable thing is that the uninformed have no idea that they are the uninformed.

It is so close now that the few of us “in the know” can feel the breath of this leviathan upon us. The Wisconsin union protests were so much more. National union leaders like Richard Trumka — a self-avowed socialist — told those of us who were listening that those demonstrations had less to do with unions and more to do with what he deemed, “massive social change.”

Do you want to know what I mean when I describe the “evil shepherds” and the “useful idiots”? Here is a great example. Andy Stern (a diabolical Alinskian) of SEIU (a very large union), told us in March 2011 that he was organizing a protest of Wall Street wherein he would pick a demon (a big bank) and stage a protest there. At the time, he specifically named JP Morgan, while offhandedly remarking that the target of the animus against Wall Street was less important than the overall goal. Mr. Stern’s stated goal to his socialist/anarchist revolutionary audience was to cause another financial crisis. The plan? To rile up 10% of mortgage holders (a/k/a useful idiots) with such hatred toward the banks, that they would be willing to join in a nation-wide mortgage boycott. He told the useful idiots in his audience — a description of whom is mirrored in the present-day Wall Street “Occupation” participants — that if 10% of mortgage holders boycotted their mortgage payments, they could cause a second financial crisis and crash the banks.

Mr. Stern’s idea was met with jubilance and cheers by the morons who lacked the foresight to picture what their world would look like thereafter. If the dollar becomes more worthless — which is hard to imagine — it will collapse. Interruptions in the food and energy supplies will follow. Unprecedented job losses will likely follow. Unrest and chaos will ensue. For the majority of these useful idiots, they will be the first to perish because so many of them are the shiftless masses who represent LBJ’s Great Society in that they are dependent upon the government for everything from their Ritalin to their rent. Accordingly, they have never actually provided for themselves and are thus weak. Unfortunately for hard-working Americans, it is this group that will easily morph into violent thieves. Their zeal for the property of others, combined with their irrational belief that they are entitled to it, makes taking it by force a foregone conclusion.

The term “useful idiots” can be traced to Saul Alinsky. If Barack Obama is the purposeful quarterback of America’s decline, then Saul Alinsky is the head coach. He drafted the playbooks that modern Progressives (and all statists) follow. Like all statist objectives, it is a plan of deception. The plan is to deceive good-natured Americans by packaging social programs in a wayn that appeals to our benevolance. Have you ever heard a modern statist pitch a social program as the latest and greatest way in which we can rob an entire segment of Americans of their will to work? Of course not, because it would not have appeal. What about if it were packaged in compassion? Now we’re talking. For example, instead of calling government hand-outs the equivalent of a “people-zoo” which offers security, free food, free shelter, etc., in exchange for freedom to succeed and thrive, Mr. Alinsky espoused packaging it as compassionate salvation. As part of this deception, handouts would be described as compassionate and necessary to rescue the impoverished. Unfortunately, the impoverished have graduated to a permanent welfare state which retains its poverty, and now beckons ours. Let’s compare that with Benjamin Franklin’s plan. When asked what we would do to help the poor, Franklin responded that, “We should make the poor uncomfortable and kick them out of poverty.”

Ask yourself: were you born with your own home? Did you always have the job or career you wanted? How about your salary . . . was it always as high as you wanted? Depending upon your age you may not understand the beauty of America’s freedom, but here it is: WE ALL STARTED OUT POOR! The question is why didn’t we stay that way? The answer is because we are free (for the time being) to plot, plan, and work our way out of it. The overwhelming majority of us will eventually own our own home, have a better job than our first one, earn a better income than our first one, and enjoy happiness that can only occur in freedom. How would your life be different if you were given an endless supply of government hand-outs and made comfortable in your “poverty”?

You need only look to the Occupy Wallstreet protestors to find out. They are the useful idiots Alinsky described. They believe that they are entitled to a certain standard of living. That belief is a tribute to the wide-spread effectiveness of Cloward & Piven. Worse yet, they believe that you and I should provide it to them. Their leaders are puppeteers, and they are the puppets. The job of the puppeteers is to take them one step farther down the path of rationalization. Their anger must be harnessed into the morally relative belief that they have the right to take the property of others. The bad news is that they are practically there. Imagine adding one crisis into this cauldron . . . another market crash, a worsening economy, war, assassination, or hunger. That will be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Alinsky teaches us that once these pawns have served their purpose and participated in protests and advanced chaos and unrest, they have outlived their usefulness. What fate befalls them then according to Alinsky? Just ask Bill Ayers — an Alinskyite, and friend of President Obama’s — who described the answer to an undercover FBI agent investigating his 1960′s terrorist group, “the Weather Underground.” Mr. Ayers indicated that their plan to seize power through revolution would require them to exterminate 25 million people . . . American people. Many will be the useful idiots.

Incidentally, if you have listened to the interviews of some of the featured protestors, they are not the impoverished dregs of society. One “protestor” pointed at a bank and screamed, “that’s the bank that took my mother and father’s home . . . they did everything right, but that bank took their home!” It turns out the entire story was a lie. The young man is currently enrolled in a prestigious, and very expensive law school. His mother and father live in a home which they bought for $500,000.00. They owe only $50,000.00 on the home and are not in foreclosure at all.

Another man stands screaming out the rehearsed mantra of the protestors until he is confronted by an elderly man who suggests he should get a job. The young man maintains that he has a job and is a member of the “plumbers’ union,” and unleashes a tirade of antisemitic comments at the elderly man. Eventually, however, the young man suggests that viewers should check him out on youtube. Beware, this guy is vile, racist, and repugnant. He is the face of the movement which Cloward & Piven started long ago. He is a complete moron who has absolutely no idea what freedom is. He is like the Fish Out Of Water in the corresponding post (See “Freedom & The Fish Out Of Water”). Yet because he has been indoctrinated and poisoned into believing that America’s promise is a promise that is owed to him by others, he believes that he actually desires that which would be his undoing. If, as I suspect, he prefers unemployment and hand-outs, then he is marching for his own demise. If America suffers the financial crisis or socialist conversion this moron thinks he wants, his days of freebees are over. The former Soviet Union wasn’t know for generous social programs or freebees. Remember the line about not working and not eating?

Mr. Alinsky’s plan was set in motion a long time ago. The shocker is that the crescendo is building as we speak. The world’s statists (Liberals, Progressives, Marxists, Communists, and Socialists) along with Muslim extremist groups such as The Muslim Brotherhood which was founded as a Nazi muslim group are coming. As they near, we have already begun defeating ourselves while our President leads the Waltz Of The Ignorant. The standard news cycles come and go here in the eye of the hurricane. Do not expect that the enemies of America — or America’s untimely fate — will be announced as sudden, breaking news interrupting the nightly broadcast. That will not happen. The modern media is no more than elevator music in the sanitarium of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. The enemy is upon us. Prepare for the coming storm. Let’s hope a cold winter hits first and drives these whiners back into the metropolitan luxury to which they are hypocritically accustomed.

I think you will love this poem, “The Gods of the Copybook Headings,” written by Rudyard Kipling.  It is utterly brilliant, and stunningly prophetic.  The Gods of the copybook headings represent common sense, and universal truths about humanity which exist whether or not man likes — or approves of — them.  They pronounce universal truths of the human condition and existence that are intrinsic laws of humanity, or laws of nature; as concrete and inescapable as the notions that water wets us, and fire burns us.  These are unchangeable facts which are not so pliable as man’s ability to understand them, or his willingness to be persuaded that they are, somehow, no longer absolute and true.  When exposed to the blinding, degenerative disease of ”social progress”, these truths become shrouded and made to appear uncertain.  As a consequence, liberty is both sacrificed by its unwitting beneficiaries, and premeditatedly murdered by its enemies.  This bizarre co-conspiracy sides lambs with wolves in a civil war against a free nation whose constitutionally ignorant masses have no idea they are about to lose it.  Kipling attributes the “social progress” movement(“Progressivism”)  for the “intellectual” man’s cyclical willingness to subvert that which he knows to be good, concrete and true, but to fully understand this dynamic, the Progressives should be delineated into two distinct groups; the Manipulators, and the Pawns.

The Manipulators are self-described enemies of America.  They are the result of a movement that began under former President, Woodrow Wilson.  They are followers of the writings of Saul Alinsky, such as the radicals from the 1968 Chicago DNC riots.  They are the domestic terrorists, left-over Viet Nam-era socialist protestors, and America-haters like the Weather Underground (Bill Ayers, and wife Bernardine Dohrn).  They are union leaders like Richard Trumka.  They are thousands of committed socialists, Marxists, and communists, and Progressives that desperately seek to steal America’s liberty and replace it with statism.  They are the violent thugs hidden in the masses of protestors in Greece and Great Britain who are unknown to their benign fellow protestors.  They will be the ones that purposely turn those riots — and the ones we can expect here in the United States — violent and deadly.  They are also socialist masterminds and financiers such as billionaire, George Soros, and others.  The Manipulators do not believe at all in the lofty goals they profess and will dispense with them violently 15 minutes after they collapse the target nation.  The lofty goals, and the perception of class envy, are merely the lure that draws in the unwitting Pawns.   The Pawns are the gullible true believers whose enlistment is necessary to the Manipulators’ planned transformation of sovereign nations into tyrannical rule.

Saul Alinsky (one of the original Progressives who authored the Progressives’ how-to bibles entitled Revele For Radicals, and Rules For Radicals and lived in Chicago after the Chicago race riots of the 1930′s which later became a hot-bed for socialists and progressives indoctrinated as ”community organizers”) described these pawns as useful idiots of the otherwise useless middle class.  Alinsky wrote that you must control the middle class in order to take power.  That’s right, Alinsky’s books are how-to manuals designed for the sole purpose of taking power; not bringing about any utopia –  just good, old-fashioned seething greed and ambition.  His books were dedicated to Satan which gives you some insight into the true purpose of disguising the quest for ultimate power of Progressivism as an equality movement.  Dressing the destruction of free America up as an expansion of freedom — when in fact it would extinguish it – is designed to appeal to the constitutionally ignorant masses who do not understand they are passionately assisting in the destruction of their own liberty and way of life.

In this way, Alinsky tracks the KGB subversion strategy, as well as that of the American socialist and communist parties.  The lynchpin to understanding this strategy is that it is based upon deception.  In that way it appeals to the Progressive Pawn described herein and lures the unwitting who desire to be do-gooders.  They perceive their participation as such.  Thus, they are truly distinguishable from their Manipulator counterparts; although, it is the combination that has been so lethal to freedom and the American way of life.  It should be noted that both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are students of Alinsky.  In fact, Mrs. Clinton wrote a 75-page tribute to Saul Alinsky while she was in college.  Since Alinsky writes so candidly about his objective (destroying the United States to steal power by duping the middle class into believing his evil is actually a benevolence movement), it seems clear that Mrs. Clinton falls into the Manipulator class of Progressives.

Both Alinsky and Agent Bezmenov admit that after the middle class has been used, they are no longer useful.  In fact, Agent Bezmenov describes the KGB plan as requiring the rapid elimination of the duped pawns, because they pose a risk when they see what they have wrought.  In other words, even those unsuspecting, gullible Pawns that enabled the destruction of the United States as we know it and morphed it into a despotic regime, must be exterminated for fear that after it is achieved, they will finally understand that they were sold a pack of lies.  It is difficult to comprehend the ignorance of those who could work so hard — hand in hand with the Manipulators like the KGB, George Soros, Van Jones, Bill Ayers, and other virulent America-haters – to achieve something so vile; all the while believing the end result would be their long-awaited delusional moment at which Michael really does row the boat ashore.  The fact is that all of the aforementioned strategies of manipulation rely upon these Pawns of the middle class, and realize they must dispose of them when the Progressive manipulators’ goal (a socialist state for the KGB, or tyrannical power under the Alinsky model) is achieved.  Agent Bezmenov states that the brainwashing of an entire American generation has already been achieved through formalized educational propaganda in America with better success than its KGB architects could have ever dreamed of.

It seems that Progressive Pawns willfully discard reason in favor of a willful self-hypnosis which permits them to pursue a perceived utopia in the face of absolute truths to the contrary, and ultimately, at the expense of their very freedom . . . and that of their countrymen.  In the process, the Progressive Pawn fails, because he genuinely believes in the utopia he has been sold.  Either he achieves what his Manipulator seeks and finally realizes he has been duped, or he fails because America continues to stave off Progressivism.  These two alternatives are obvious and predictable to all but he and his brainwashed brethren.  Ironically, the only ones in the know are his co-conspirator Manipulators and those of us who resist them.

It seems likely that the Pawns will succeed in carrying out their Manipulators’ design.  If they do, they will destroy the nation and society which allowed them to thrive – to the point at which the disease of Progressivism surfaces.  That point is reached only after a society/nation has evolved to the point at which individual survival is no longer a serious concern.  That is when the trappings of excess distract the “evolved intellectual” into the belief that perfection is attainable for all.  Kipling describes this period as the beginning of the brave new world, “When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins.”   This is clearly distinguishable from a violent revolution such as the French or Russian revolutions against their aristocratic governments.  The middle-class Pawns would likely abandon their complicity if violence were required of them.  That is less clear as among the brainwashed University Pawns, whose zeal is greater.

If the Progressive Pawn were pre-occupied with his struggle to survive economically (see the Post entitled, “Liberty + Statism = Statism” for an explanation of this premise), the luxury of funding Progressivism’s stated mission(s), or participating as its activist would be unlikely, and probably unappealing.  That is the point at which the “evolved intellectual” sets about destroying the very system which permitted this epiphany of ignorance as the zenith of intellectualism.  He does this, because he grows ignorant of his own freedom’s obvious attributes and seeks to improve it; although, he is blind to the reality that he is destroying it.  Those who persuade this man to this point are mere power mongers who harness the useful idiots to advance their power grab.  Of course, the irony is that that system has proved its efficacy by enabling man to not merely survive, but to evolve so far beyond survival, that he now has the freedom to toil in loftier endeavors, and that is his undoing.  When seen as a cyclical pattern, one can see why ignorance of history, and abandonment of common sense are critical prerequisites to the “social progress” movement.  In the United States, constitutional ignorance — and even constitutional disdain — is required as well; although, its fate often resides at the hands of  “social progress engineers” in black robes whose decisions are issued without regard to the text of the Constitution.  See generally, Men In Black (by Mark Levin).

Kipling’s poem illustrates that humans subject themselves to perpetually repetitive cycles wherein they, first, learn and believe in the aforementioned universal truths (actual knowledge), but then ”evolve” to a point where they shed them in the name of snake-oiled ”enlightenment,” where man exhibits his “evolved” willingness to abandon common-sense in favor of aspirational blindness.  This status is a sort of willful stupidity which is most apparent in highly developed societies.  See the Post entitled: ”Liberty + Statism = Statism” for a theory on the environment wherein this mass self-delusion typically thrives.  This brings about their decline, destruction, subjugation, loss of liberty, despotism and ultimately a renewal of adherence to universal truths, and common sense recognized in their misery, and achieved during their resurgence.  If they thrive again, their success makes a fertile environment for the same, old Progressivism and the process is repeated again as they “evolve” further and further from the knowledge that got them there.

Kipling attributes this self-destructive cycle to the ”social progress” movement, and he is correct.  It is clear that the great empires no longer fall to external forces.  The greatest pest in modern, developed nations is the cancer of the Progressive movement.  Progressivism is just good, old statism (see the Posts entitled: “Cradle To Grave”; “Government Expansion, The Cure Or The Affliction”; and “Liberty + Statism = Statism” for discussions on statism), but its proponents disguise it as moral superiority so that those who resist it can be summarily dismissed as racists, or out-dated fools who “cling to their guns and religion,” to quote President Obama.  As you can see, it is really no different than the type of covert socialist transformation described below by KGB Agent Yuri Bezmenov.  It is statism or collectivism.  The only difference is that it is fraudulently packaged and sold as moral superiority, and is driven by political correctness, pseudo-empathetic balkanization of constituent races and groups, excessive sensibility, and the chronically offended.  Unfortunately, only the realization of their efforts — despotism — finally awakens the unwitting pawns of the movement to which they have devoted themselves in the name of utopia.  This is of little consolation to Kipling and those of us who can recognize the same old snake oil, because we must share the price of destruction imposed upon us by the tireless Progressives whose dedication is matched only by their ignorance.  We are the stubborn, common-sensers who still quote time-honored maxims of humanity like, “. . . you can fool some of the people all of the time . . .”  We are reviled by the Progressives as out-dated morons who lack the capacity to understand the wisdom of their “brilliant” plan for utopia, and are, thus, obstacles thereto.

By the term “copybook headings”, he is referring to the little writing templates that we used to do as children in writing class.  The lines we had to write tended to embody those universal truths.  It is a captivating illustration.  I think that would make Glenn Beck the teacher.  Well classmates, put your thinking caps on because this poem constitutes real wisdom — the kind that we don’t see today . . . the kind that comes from eye-witness accounts of human evil and manipulation.  You can feel it as you read on.  Unfortunately, the up-close and personal horror that precipitated this poem is lost within one generation.  It becomes just another poem among many.

Anyway, this poem is the most poignant example of human desire to believe — in the name of intellectualism — that which defies common sense and thus depart from the knowledge that got us to being the greatest country on earth. Typically, the new knowledge is sold as enlightenment; rendering those who cling to common sense as simply unevolved and too ignorant to understand.  I think of Martin Sheen’s character in “Wall Street” as the character who knows better than to believe Gordon Gecko’s promises of prosperity for all, unlike his son who chooses to believe – and thus is complicit – in the slaughter of his father’s company.  As indicated, the “intellectual” liberal is a Progressive.  As such, he falls into two categories: 1) those who truly believe in statism (the antithesis of individual freedom), who purposely and deliberately move the ball toward the collapse of capitalism (Progressive Manipulators), and 2) those who ally themselves with category #1, but out of an innocent belief that there can be perpetual peace, prosperity, and happiness as long as we surrender our own protections of those things and give them over to government on the promise that they are not needed (Progressive Pawns).  This is the fairy-tale-believer crowd that Kipling so brilliantly describes. They believe that the world’s virtually continuous record of war, starvation, slavery, subjugation, etc only exists because humans were stupid.  If we can just hand over our primitive fixation on violence, guns, and individuality, we can all be humming love tunes and exchanging flowers by this time next year.  Those people are the uninformed co-conspirators of those more malicious folks in category #1; they are the only ignorant group in this paradigm. They are the sheep who go willingly and ignorantly to their own slaughter.  Unfortunately, they take the rest of us with them, believing all-the-while that we will thank them when they foist their “enlightened” new society upon us.

Although this is perhaps the most brilliant poem about human nature, the last two stanzas are my favorite because they capture the cyclical nature of ignorance in the name of enlightenment . . . that although we know better, the next generation is always ready to be sold the same enlightenment snake oil, and thus, the process repeats. The sad truth is that true knowledge (common sense, history, belief in God and Biblical truths about humanity which are true even if you disagree with them and with faith) seems to always have a shelf life. Humans want to replace knowledge when it gets old; mistaking it for evidence of one’s primitivity. Enter the snake oil salesman with promises that there is such a thing as a free lunch, etc.

Yuri Bezmenov interview

The interviews of former KGB agent, Yuri Bezmenov are, quite simply, the most remarkable, unclassified, expose of ”social justice” ever.

View the Video on YouTube

Agent Bezmenov reveals that the KGB was never really devoted to intellegence.  Rather, during his involvement, the KGB’s main mission was to destroy the United States from within.  In fact, during that period, the KGB expended 90% of its resources to silent infiltration into American society, like its colleges, and media.  The purpose of this was to destroy America by brainwashing its students out of its otherwise obvious governmental and societal superiority and history of unparalleled achievement through via individual freedom.  It explains the purposeful — and psychologocally designed — brainwashing of America’s college students (referred to as “soft brains”) by the KGB.  He explains with emotionless, scientific candor that to “contaminate” a society to Marxism, Socialism, or Communism takes only about 15 years, because that is the amount of time necessary to “brainwash” an entire generation by teaching them the myriad of socialist “equality”, all of which he describes as utopian tools of manipulation which are in actuality complete lies, but which are vehicles to a socialist conversion which simultaneously immunizes its willful idiots from actual reality and truths.   He is frighteningly confident about the fact that once a generation is “contaminated” (i.e. brainwashed with socialism noting the importance of choking off honest, comparative discussion of the obvious shortcomings of statism, and the obvious advantages of liberty) with the seeds of socialism disguised as utopia, it will take at least 25 years to get a pro-American class back through the pipeline.  Thus, a single brainwashed generation requires only a 15-year investment, and will gladly destroy American freedom — a governmental design which is globally unique and empowers the individual over the State — as it ignorantly champions socialism while destroying individual freedom.

For example, he describes how this brainwashing process renders its believers so ignorant that they no longer admit the universal truths described in the opening paragraph above, and in the Kipling poem referenced herein.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich has just switched his vote to “yes” on ObamaCare.  He was a “no” vote on the House bill, but one day after his ride on Air Force One with the Messiah, he has flipped.  Actually, given the ripping he gave the Senate bill over the last two weeks, he is more than a flipper, he is now a flip-flopper!

Electrical Shortage In A Socialist Dictatorship

On March 15, 2010, Hugo Chavez is sending the Venezuelan Military’s troops out to its people’s houses to forcibly replace people’s light bulbs with energy-efficient CFL bulbs because a drought has reduced their hydroelectric production.  The comparisons between Obama (and American Progressives) and Venezuelan dictator, Hugo Chavez are frighteningly similar.

Eco-Hijackers; Green is Merely The Vehicle Justifying Statism

What would you think if the U.S. Military were ordered to enter your home and confiscate all of your light bulbs?  The Progressives reading this would think: “Great!  We can finally get our Energy Hogs under control by force.”  You should be afraid to share a country with people who think like that.   There are other lessons here.  Look at what happens when a nation is dependent upon hydroelectric power only . . . or wind power.  When the rain doesn’t fall, or the wind doesn’t blow, the lights go out.  The refrigerators fail and everyone starves . .  . in the dark.  One of the most radically socialist Obama appointees (and that’s saying something) was Van Jones.  He was the green czar.  Before that, he devoted his life to radical, militant, anti-Caucasian philosophy.  His knowledge of the environment or science pales by comparison to his main gig which is the spreading of radical, racist socialism.  It is his reason for being.  Unfortunately, the green movement became the perfect vehicle for him to get there.  If you espouse the destruction of individual liberty, Americans resist, but if you find a justification for it, millions will not even see that you’re doing it.  Or, if some do, most will not.

The tree-hugger crowd may legitimately believe that timbering is wrong (despite the recent findings from a 30-year study by the co-founder of GreenPeace).  They are easily hijacked by one who espouses radical green policies for a different motive.  The GreenPeace study found that as a renewable resource which does not require manufacturing, chemicals, or pollution to make – and does not permanently occupy land-fill space after its use – wood is the eco-friendliest building material on earth.  What will shock you is the fact that his environmentalist cohorts have excommunicated him as a result.  He sought to impartially find the least harmful building material by devoting his life to its study.  The studied conclusion is what many in the “green” movement have chosen to ignore.  Why?  Whether you agree with them or not, true environmentalists seek to preserve environmental health.  Eco-hijackers like Van Jones, however, seek the control of industry and use the disguise of environmentalism to achieve it.  Thus, even if the study is sound, they will ignore it, because for them environmentalism is merely the vehicle to their anti-industry agenda.  For example, loggers have been replanting harvested areas since at least 1964, but you have probably never heard that.  If the vehicle breaks down, the movement breaks down.  If the facade is removed, the radical’s agenda is exposed.  What is fascinating is to see glimpses such as this, where their true motives are revealed.  This is where they exploit the environment to advance that statist agenda, they can be seen for what they really are; statists who will set the environment on fire if it advances statism.  Environmentalists beware . . . the person sitting next to you in that Redwood Tree is an Eco-hijacker.  He is the enemy within.

How Many Politicians Does it Take to Screw Up a Light Bulb?

It may surprise you to know that our Democratically controlled Congress has already outlawed incandescent light bulbs (the mono-filament type invented by Thomas Edison) in the name of the green movement; however, they are not illegal until 2014.  Will our military, or law enforcement be sent to enforce compliance?  Well, Obama has already implemented his plan to inspect all homes before they are permitted to be sold to ensure that they comply with green policies such as light bulbs, etc.  What happens if you don’t want to let them in?  Well, what happens if you don’t pay the ObamaCare fines?  Imprisonment for 1-5 years.

Collectivism Devours Individual Liberty . . . Because It Must

If you think imprisonment is off the table for green offenses think again.  When the interests of the collective are placed higher than those of the individual, individuals are crushed for the greater good.  History has shown this.  In the U.S.S.R., Stalin executed virtually all farmers because his confiscation of their crops after they had worked their entire lives to farm was understandably met with some resistance.  The farmers were executed and the resistance ended . . . so did the productivity of the farms.  The point is that Statism (socialism, communism, Marxism) is the belief that the collective leaves no room for the individual; not even enough room for their right to live or to own property when those rights interfere with the collective.

If that sounds like Utopia to you, then you should consult this blog daily (see, “The Global Warming Masquerade”), because you have not thought it through and you have not read the Constitution or world history.  You will be the one smiling the longest . . . right up to the moment that you realize that you have been an ignorantly complicit pawn fighting vehemently for your own destruction.  Only after it arrives will you realize the horror you have wrought.  Then, you will understand the Constitution and its protections because you will see the world you have created; a world free of limitations ON GOVERNMENT, where true freedom is an impediment and is therefore eradicated by the omnipotent government you have helped to create.  Are you the complicit pawn whose ignorance moves you — and forces the rest of us – to our undoing?  If you are, you too will realize your mistake, but it will be too late for you, and you deserve that.  The greater injustice is that it will be too late for the rest of us too who saw it coming.  We are the informed constitutionalists that you see as the enemy of your misguided movement.  It is fitting that you too should be enslaved by the eco-hijackers you have followed, but that is little comfort to the rest of us.

“Cradle-To-Grave” is the Phrase Given To The Progressivist Concept That Governmental Intrusion Into Every Facet and Phase of Our Lives in America is Necessary.  It is a Term Which Describes the Statist Belief that Government Should Infect Society From Birth to Death.  We Now Have Government in Almost Every Facet of Our Lives, but it is Even Worse in the Lower Economic Class of the Great Society.    There, Taxpayers Pay for Entire Lifetimes for People They Have Never Met and In Ways That They Have Never Dreamed.  Many Recipients Receive Government Benefits Fraudulently and Those Recipients Cost Taxpayers More Than Valid and Deserving Recipients as Described Below.

Sixty Percent of Federal Government Spending is on Entitlement Programs

About one decade ago, the Welfare Reform Act was passed as part of the Contract With America lead by then House Speaker, Newt Gingrich.  It was designed to change the generational scourge that had become the welfare state.  President Clinton vetoed the bill more than once, but then reluctantly signed it into law.  What many people do not realize is that as people came off of the welfare rolls (after two years on welfare as required under the Welfare Reform Act), President Clinton began to run them through the back door of the Social Security Administration.

A a consequence, the Social Security Administration is the new welfare program.  This governmental slight of hand by the executive branch eviscerated much of the anticipated savings of the Welfare Reform Act.  The main vehicle for this shell game is the expansion of Social Security Disability Income qualifications.  Most elderly retirees are paid less than young, strapping SSI recipients who are in  the prime of their lives and in excellent physical health.  The reason for this is that the program’s requirements have been abused to permit the welfare state to move over to the Social Security Administration for life.  For example, a senior citizen couple who worked for his or her entire life, is paid approximately $600.00 each per month.  Taxes are taken out of a retiree’s payments as well.  On the other hand, the young, strapping, fraudulent SSI recipient who claims to be illiterate (a favorite among applicants in the know because it is impossible to disprove), will be paid approximately $650.00 per month even though he has virtually no employment history.  Not surprisingly, the receipt of that money provides a disincentive for him to seek employment.

The receipt of benefits by innumerable fraudulent recipients who have never paid into social security makes that agency’s insolvency instantly understandable.  It is hard enough to sustain social security when its recipients were at one time payors into the system, but when those who have never paid into it, and do not deserve it, begin to draw it down — receiving more than desiring retirees in many cases — its days are numbered.

Receipt of Government Benefits Qualifies Recipients For Additional Benefits

But, now comes the alarming part (just in time for Progressives and other statists infuriated by the previous sentence).  The receipt of SSI payments qualifies the recipient for a whole host of additional social program benefits which render the $650.00 per month more akin to disposable income.  For example, receipt of SSI payments qualifies the recipient for HUD housing which is subsidized by the tax payer and enables the recipient to have a home for remarkably little or no monthly cost.  Similarly, the recipient qualifies for food stamps (EBT Card).  This program enables the recipient to obtain food at the grocery store which is paid for by the tax payer and can include a monthly food budget that exceeds yours!  Recipients of SSI are also eligible for the Medical card (Medicaid).  Thus, they are entitled to unlimited medical coverage at the tax payers’ expense.

Worse yet is the congenital aspect of SSI.  It is not uncommon for entire familes to be on SSI.  As a result, the children, too, receive payments from the tax payers.  The likelihood that they will escape the bondage of this lifestyle is extremely low because the foregoing benefits put them in such a position as to never have to try.

I hope that I have succinctly described the manner by which the social state justifies the receipt of additional benefits by virtue of the receipt of initial benefits.  This piling on of handouts at the taxpayers’ expense punishes the tax payer, and condemns the recipient of the benefits to a lifetime of handouts.  The payment to later generations based upon the payment to their parent(s) starts the entire cycle anew.

We aspire in America because we want to improve our standard of living for ourselves and our families.  The government benefits paid out in the name of social justice result in low educational performance, and make it impossible for recipients to find employment lucrative enough to deliver the same standard of living that they receive from the tax payers.  “Disabilities” that enable one to apply for these programs are ADHD, Explosive Combative Disorder (translation: court-appointed defense lawyer sent client to a tax payer-funded psychologist to establish an affirmative defense to a violent crime in which the recipient intentionally injured another person), and other controversial “disorders”.  Other programs pay parents for being “caregivers” for their own children.  The program pays parents or grandparents to babysit their own children or grandchildren.

It is not uncommon for the family that fraudulently receives these benefits to break down, in part, from idle hands or from the impact of a capable bread-winner electing to receive benefits in lieu of working.  So many good life lessons flow from hard work and when it is removed from the family through deceit and/or lethargy, there are often consequences.  In these cases, often the DHHR enters the family paradigm (at the taxpayers’ expense).  It is also not uncommon for criminal endeavors to  ensue particularly where government housing often surrounds an otherwise law abiding family with the allure of drug use and ancillary crime and criminal enterprises.  Children are often the most susceptible to this influence which contributes to the recipient family’s meltdown.  Current offspring of life-long benefits recipients may already be the product of a broken family.  It is not uncommom for illegitimate children to flow from families broken from generational public welfare.  Those children are an exponential consequence in the continuing growth in the population of the welfare state.

In the event that a recipient’s family member is charged with a crime, their receipt of public assistance renders them “indigent” and therefore they receive a court-appointed attorney at the tax payers’ expense.  In the event that the crime in question is a property crime, it is not unlikely that the victim’s tax dollars are actually paying for his perpetrator’s lawyer.  If the perpetrator is ultimately incarcerated, the taxpayers still pay for his room and board as well as prison construction, security, counsellors, employee pensions, etc.  If instead, the accused is placed on probation, then he/she is required to be monitored . . . at the tax payers’ expense.

The scope of this post is limited to the millions of people who receive governmental benefits either unnecessarily or fraudulently who jeopardize the continuation and viability of legitimate benefits recipients.  There are millions of people who legitimately receive these benefits.  Similarly, there are millions of people who work tirelessly — many at more than one job — who go home at night to a neighborhood comprised of neighbors who are able, but do not work.  One of the greatest crimes of the welfare state is that it makes a fool of the hard-working individual who possesses the great American work ethic.  For him, the only difference between he and his neighbors is his pride.  Any government policy that places a man in that position is inexcusable.  Worse yet, when he arrives home after a long day’s work, he must struggle to explain to his family and children why he chooses to work even though his non-working neighbors enjoy a greater standard of living.  He must also wrestle with the reality that lethargy, and the sociological problems it creates can be contagious, especially to children . . . hopefully not his.

Years ago, the national media ran a story stating that statistics had come out showing that, on average, people on public assistance received 10% less money than the working poor.  The tragedy is that the news anchor failed to recognize that the protagonist in that story was the working poor.  Predictably, the angle of the story was that this disparity in income between the working poor and the non-working poor must be corrected by increasing the amount of benefits that the non-working poor receive to bring them up to par with the earnings of the working poor.  As long as I live I will never forget that story, because even though I knew nothing of politics, liberty, or our nation’s history, everything I had learned from my father and my grandfather — two of the hardest-working men I have ever known — told me exactly who the true victim of that story was.  Hard work is honorable.  Years later, I realized that there is a name for the only group of people who does not know that.  They are called Progressives.  Not surprisingly, they are both the founders and unyielding proponents of the welfare state described herein, and accordingly are the greatest enemies of America and liberty.  Already, we see the greatest nation God gave man collapsing under the exponentially increasing weight of these Cradle-To-Grave social programs while our President — a self-described “progressive” — races to our collapse with insatiable haste creating new and unprecedentedly large social spending programs like ObamaCare.

All tolled, an SSI recipient claiming illiteracy can receive approximately: $650.00 per month (not including other same-household family mambers’ receipt of SSI) along with taxpayer-paid housing (HUD), taxpayer-paid food (EBT Card), free medical care (Medicaid), utility subsidies that dramatically reduce the cost of utilities which are absorbed by you and others who pay for their own utility costs as well as the Great Society’s.  This is far from an exhaustive list of benefits.  Viewed in this light, ine can see that all of the recipient’s living expenses are paid for by the taxpayer.  Additionally, the $650.00 SSI payment looks more like what it is; cash on hand from the taxpayer.  Other programs such as the ones that pay parents/grandparents (with taxpayer money) to watch their own children are not quantified here, although, they can pay considerably more than $650.00 per month.  It is not my intention to complie an exhaustive list.  Rather, it is to shine a light on this area so that it can be evaluated.  Too often, the debate surrounding social programs deals only with generalities such as whether it is right or wrong to take from taxpayers to give to those who have less.  At some point, however, it must be scrutinized like all other difficult questions in life, many of which are questions about degree, not philosophy.  It is frightening that many of you reading this have never dreamed that social program recipients could receive more than a working family that earns $50,000.00 per year.  Now, you can see that the true victims of these programs are those who work very hard, but do not receive any social benefits.  Hopefully, those of you who believed that no one in their right mind would choose to stay as a recipient of social benefits can now see that many of these families not only survive, but enjoy a higher standard of living than they could if they got jobs.  Therein lies one of the great myths.  You cannot expect a recipient to voluntarily get off of government assistance when it means that they will have to earn $50,000.00 per year to not experience a drop in living standard.  Thus, these programs discourage independence and encourage generational dependency which will destroy us all.

The constitutional  design is one which recognizes that government, by its nature, will always expand and that as it expands, it crowds out individual liberty.  The Constitution wisely expresses a preference for the individual over government by enumerating — and thereby limiting –  the powers of the latter in favor of the former.  Thus, every expansion of government no matter how lofty its ambition, intrudes and burdens its citizenry through taxation or regulation.

The solution to those issues properly within the government’s province are already solved to the extent they can be by the Constitution.  Any desired improvement should not be enacted simply because we have yet to achieve perfection in society.  It is important to recognize that the Constitution is not intended to be a starting place.  Rather, it is a document which, although subject to amendment, is the completed recipe for liberty through limited government.  Each new government “solution” to each newly perceived social ill is an assault on the Constitution’s limitation on government.  The limitation on government is specifically designed to foster individual liberty because the two are unavoidably competing interests.

Our Founders observed that government will always seek to expand.  Our history has demonstrated absolutely that even a constitutionally limited government will expand until it can no longer sustain itself.  A government’s life cycle is akin to those seen in our natural world in that sense.  For example, certain organisms exhibit a fairly predictable life cycle.  A tree for example, struggles at first, but then gains a foothold.  Thereafter, it grows taller and larger.  Eventually, it is overcome by the weight of its own branches and they begin to crack and fall off.

That is the way of our government.  Although it is expressly limited by Article I, section VIII of the U.S. Constitution, its limbs have grown so far and wide that it has endangered its own survival.  The purpose for peoples organizing into societies is for protection.  That is the fundamental purpose of our government, but now our crippled economy and super-leveraged debt generated through secondary and tertiary government functions has jeopardized even that most critical function.

Thus, we have expanded the government’s functions from its proper purposes into a cradle-to-grave entitlement society.  And now we begin to see the other side of the equation which has been ignored or completely absent from the equation for decades while government has become the first solution to every problem.  The very purpose of limiting government is to preserve individual freedom and liberty.  If you fail to restrain it, it expands in a way which is frighteningly obvious today.  It will never restrain itself.

This reality does not require evil dictators, or bloody revolutions.  It requires only two things:  1) a society that has steeped so long in liberty it fails to recognize that America’s arch nemesis is the same one it’s always been; unrestrained government and 2)  a social ill that appeals to our sense of compassion.  These two elements are all that is necessary to create the next governmental agency . . . ObamaCare, Cap & Tax, Welfare, SSDI, etc.

Ironically, those two things are only ever present in a society which has evolved to a point where daily survival is no longer an overriding concern.  For example, only a society whose standard of living is high can create an expectation mentality which believes that our way of life is magically permanent and not owing to anything; least of all the Constitution’s limitation on government expansion.

Similarly, we can concern ourselves with seeking to cure every social ill only because we are so prosperous that we are able to afford the luxury of goodwill to others.  The further man evolves away from the jeopardy of daily survival, the more he toils in that which would otherwise be too extravagant.  Man, left to his own devices and unrestricted by government, will thrive.  He will do so because he is free to provide for himself, his family, and eventually, his fellow man.  Conversely, where he is weighted down by excessive taxation and governmental restraint, he is less free to control his own destiny.   Currently, federal social programs account for approximately $0.70 out of every tax dollar we pay.  These programs are borne out of perceived compassion, but are forced upon tax payers.  Thus, compassion forms the basis for confiscation of tax money from tax payers.  This forced confiscation of your money for a non-essential government function deprives you of your property (money).  In theory, the recipient receives some government benefit, but only after it is taken from you.  Moreover, statistics demonstrate that for every tax dollar that is extracted from the tax payer to fund a social program approximately 65% of it is absorbed by the administrative costs of the government.  So, the governmental delivery of social services is also extremely inefficient (but that shall be the subject of a future Post).

The nations which enjoy the greatest prosperity are the ones that have the resources to assist with tragedies such as the recent earthquakes in Haiti.  Individual prosperity is the product of individual liberty.  The former cannot exist without the latter.  Americans are not genetically different from other people.  Only our constitutional system of government distinguishes us.  It enables us to not merely survive, but to thrive.  It is impossible to compare our compassion to the compassion of other countries because their lower standard of living makes compassion a luxury which they can neither consider nor afford.  We are compassionate because we can afford to be.  This is the effect of liberty which is present not because of luck, but because of our Constitution which prefers liberty over governmental control by expressly limiting the powers of the government.

The ultimate irony is that our own success is the mechanism by which we may destroy our nation.  All great empires crumble from within.  Our liberty permits us to thrive.  Our thriving permits us to express our compassion through cradle-to-grave government programs which seek to help others.  Our government’s social programs expand to a point at which we can no longer afford them.  Then, we are taxed to a point that is prohibitively high to pay for our out-of-control programs.  Extreme taxation reduces our disposable income which curtails our voluntary charitable giving in favor of the government-mandated programs despite their ever-worsening efficiency.  Ultimately, we collapse into financial ruination and all who depend upon us suffer because we have regressed to survival mode which, as described above, does not afford us the luxury of compassion.

The Constitution memorializes God-given freedoms.  That freedom permits man to make his own way, which produces prosperity, which produces an ability to provide for others, which permits pecuniary compassion, which expands government as the vehicle for compassion, which enslaves its payors, and ultimately takes them down along with those who have become dependent upon their money.  Thus, our liberty is both the vehicle to our unparalleled prosperity and our self-imposed destruction of it.  That is why our Constitution must take be honored no matter haw appealing the temptation to ignore it.

Like the once-great oak tree, we began with the strength of liberty.  Then, we added statism, the misguided belief that government can and should endeavor beyond its constitutional restraint to be all things to all people and to be that which it should never be; a societal helper.  When statism is added to liberty, it yields the same smothering result from which all statist societies suffer; a collapse due to its inability to sustain its own weight.  Liberty merely prolongs the inevitable.

When Benjamin Franklin entered the Continental Congress with the final version of the U.S. Constitution, he was asked what he had wrought.  He responded, “A Republic, if you can keep it.”  That has proven to be a big “if” because we are constantly lured farther down the path of government “solutions” under the guise that our Founders must have forgotten  — or been too ignorant — to include them in the Constitution.  In fact, calls for government expansion are the nation’s siren song; attractive to the constitutionally ignorant who would steer us all to our own nation’s destruction.

It is a governing principle of nature that the agency which can produce most good, when perverted from its proper aim, is most productive of evil.  It behooves the well-intentioned, therefore, vigorously to watch the tendency of even their most highly prized institutions, since that which was established in the interest of the right, may so easily become the agent of the wrong. – - – - James Fenimore Cooper

In general, the means by which government’s appetite for tax dollars is satisfied consists of two diametrically opposed views.

The first, is the belief that the growth of government is the objective.  That is the statist view which has manifested itself in the form of socialism, marxism, communism, and fascism.  These are all variants of the statist view whereby large portions of the citizens’ earnings are taxed in order to grow government.  Ultimately, these types of governments become the payor through acquisition/eradication of the private sector.  They set the amount that is paid out to the workers and thereby move wealth confiscation to the front-end of the paradigm rather than issuing payment followed by taxation.  When the government to whom you pay taxes is also the nation’s exclusive employer, there is a merger of compensation and taxation into a system which simply pays its working citizenry a uniform amount irrespective of the job or education level they possess.  Remarkably, Cuba, which is a socialistic/communistic nation, began for the first time since its communist revolution to structure compensation to its citizens for doctors and other dying or critical vocations to a tiered pay scale.  Thus, Cuba’s communist uniform pay scale — a fundamental part of any statist government because it claims fairness as its aspiration and income disparity as its antithesis– was modified toward a capitalist version in an effort to rescue certain professions; although, such a thing is anathema to statism.

The crisis-driven utilization of statism, is often called Keynesian economics; the theory that governments must spend money they do not have to recover from economic crises.  This is the view to which President Obama subscribes.  He believes that the government is the center of all things, including, but not limited to the economy.  He sees government as the source of the economy. Equally frightening, he sees it as the arbiter of fairness.  Our Founders rejected this statist view choosing instead to leave economic success in the hands of its earner.  That is called freedom . . . liberty.

Obama has painted a portrait which is a flawless lesson in socialism 101.  Socialism is not a derogatory word.  Rather, it is a political system.  There is a Socialist Party magazine in the United States, the pages of which are littered with praise for Mr. Obama’s advancement of the Socialist Party’s agenda.  Socialists simply believe that the State (meaning government) is the center of society.  In that political system, the government is the exclusive employer of all.  There is no private sector.  Rather, everyone works for the government.  The government owns all businesses (cf. fascism where the government controls all businesses through absolute regulation, but does not own them).  At any rate, the belief that the government knows  how to spend your money in a more societally preferable way than you do is a fundamental precept to the statist view.  To an ignorant few, their romanticized vision of it is dreamy.  To those who have actually experienced it, it is a nightmare.  To those who are simply undecided (i.e. uninformed), I suggest you consider why a wall (complete with machine gunners, barbwire, and cleared kill zones) was necessary in the formerly communist country.  Likewise, a search the internet and/or the library for photographs of the hoardes of cautiously euphoric faces as they scrambled out of East Germany across the adjacent border into free West Germany.  Their faces are all you need to see.  Their expressions are unforgettable; a combination of euphoric hope mixed with disbelief and the fear that the familiar sound of machine guns may be imminent.

Naturally, a government has no money but for the taxes it collects, so any of the foregoing economic/socialistic models that subscribe to the notion that a government must confiscate prohibitively high portions of workers’ money in order to facilitate government’s growth, really means the taking and spending of your money.  Even the printing of money is ultimately paid for by the taxpayers.  Thus, the first view is that government should be purposely grown, and the amount of taxes must grow commensurately to pay for it.  Actually, a true statist ultimately collapses your wealth through taxation until you more closelty resemble an indentured servant.  Unfortunately, thevery  reason a statist society ultimately exterminates its own people is that it lacks the resources to carry those who are unable to work.  Ironically, only a nation which permits its citizens to thrive can afford to take care of those who do not.

The second view — which would philosophically prefer to prevent the excessive growth of government altogether on the front end — is the belief that cutting taxes stimulates economic activity because letting people keep more of their money will make it likely that they will use it in the way that they freely believe best for them.  Their use of the money that they earn stimulates the economy.  This occurs from their purchases of goods and services.

Even if you subscribe to the belief that purposely seeking to endlessly grow government by confiscatory taxation is the preferable view, you must concede that it is anathema to the principles of liberty and freedom from excessive government set forth in the Constitution.  Moreover, there is a rule that our Founding Fathers identified that is applicable.  They noted that government and individual liberty exist in the same paradigm.  Thus, as governmental power grows, it necessarily impinges on individual freedom.  For example, even if you believe that ObamaCare is a good idea, you must see that your belief in that would require the rest of us to pay for it.  Government is grown, deficits are grown, and ultimately, we all must surrender more of the money we work so hard to earn.

The out-of-wedlock birth rates between African Americans and caucasians in 1964 was virtually identical.  Today,70% of African American children are born out of wedlock.  It is undeniable that governmental “intervention” has broken African American families who depend upon it.  A much more detailed account of this problem, can be found in a wonderful book by Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas, My Grandfather’s Son

Liberal policies always generate the exact opposite of their stated intent.  A controversial example of this is the extension of unemployment benefits (which are now 98 weeks . . . just short of two years) which are sold as assistance with the plight of displaced workers, but shown to delay millions from seeking new employment.  If needed, that sounds great, but statistics show the acceptance of those “benefits” to be like stepping into quicksand for millions of Americans now suffering from the most formidable affliction to indivdual aspiration . . . governmental “assistance.”  For some, this period of “assistance” may morph and ultimately substitute future employment with permanent dependency.  Unfortunately, the dependency affliction can highly contagious inside the American household once in its grasp.  Thus, it can spread exponentially and generationally, killing the American Spirit and condemning its victims to a life of dependency in the name of beneficence.

It would be very difficult to convince a goldfish that he should be thankful for his bowl of water.  He knows nothing else.  You could try very hard to penetrate the fish’s ambivalence, but you would fail, because his life has evolved past the recognition that he owes his very life to the fluid in which he resides.  He was born in water, and therefore lacks the context for understanding that it is even more critical to his existence than the food that you sprinkle daily atop it.

Context.  If, however, some terrible force were to knock the bowl over and cause it to shed its precious fluid, all of the efforts to educate the fish will pale by comparison to its vivid, complete and immediate understanding of that which you tirelessly professed as it gasps and struggles for the  breath that it took for granted moments earlier.  Now, you will have the fish’s undivided attention as it desperately calls upon every cell of its being to simultaneously comprehend its newly discovered mortality, and cling to its fleeting life.

Americans are not unlike the fish.  We are steeped in liberty.  It was all around us when we were born.  It has been here ever since.  Most people’s frame of reference is limited to their own life experiences.  Just like the fish, we do not suffer in desperation until it leaves us no choice.  At that moment all of the things we took for granted become vividly clear though they were virtually unobservable moments before.

Perhaps the last thing on anyone’s mind during the maiden voyage of the Titanic was the idea that it would sink remarkably fast, and that it would be ill-equipped to handle hundreds of fear-crazed passengers as they scrambled for lifeboats.

Perhaps that greatest statement on this reality of human nature was by Thomas Jefferson.  He wrote in the Declaration Of Independence: “[A]ll Experience hath shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed.”  But this statement implies knowledge on the part of the individual that he is indeed suffering.  That recogniton is not present in America.  We are the oblivious fish.  Our Republic is the precariously perched bowl, and the liberty guaranteed by our Constitution is the water, the appreciation for which, we are blinded to because we are steeped too comfortably within it.

When we engage in debate about “improving” our society, we should be mindful that we may not survive many more governmentally controlled improvements.  Our Founders designed our system of government — a representative democracy — specifically to guarantee the maximum amount of liberty to the individual.  This guarantee is like a commission-driven sales job.  It is what you make of it.  The sky is the limit in a free society, but be careful not to focus so long on crafting the safety net that you remove the incentive to fly.  Our Founders recognized that life has purpose beyond government, so government should be crafted in such a way as to not frustrate that natural tendency toward the pursuit of happiness.   They would have said that the bowl exists for the fish, not the other way around.

Unfortunately, we have been in the bowl for so many generations, that we sometimes look to it to define the pursuit of happiness when in fact it is an impediment to it.  Our pursuit of happiness is possible because of the liberty we employ to obtain it.  No system of government can come close.  Man left to his own devices will always produce a greater life for himself and his family than any system of government could.  All that is required of us is that we do not screw up the freedom over which we enjoy a temporary stewardship; always mindful that each governmental “solution” for some perceived ill, is a new impediment on the backs of our children.  Too many such “solutions” are suicide to this great nation, but we must recognize what we have in order to know the down-side of ever-expanding government.  Let’s not wait until we are left with no choice.

We could use people who understand that which the fish did not; that liberty is obvious to those without it, but invisible to those within it.
